Intelepciunea populara spune ca fiecare an din viata unui caine este echivalent cu sapte ani dintr-o viata de om. Acest calcul simplist nu este intru totul adevarat, caci, de exemplu, un copil de sapte ani nu se poate reproduce, insa o catelusa de un an poate naste deja pui. Iar cel mai longeviv caine, care a atins varsta de 29 de ani, ar fi avut echivalentul varstei umane de ... 203 ani.
